A magical ice palace was built for Bonhomme, the Carnival's guest of honour, for the first time in Jacques-Cartier Square in 1955. The impressive ice construction even had a dungeon, used to jokingly jail carnival-goers who refused to honour Bonhomme's effigy. From 1956 to 1972, Bonhomme's palace was located at Place D'Youville Crowds gathered to dance and celebrate,

walked into a bar

bartender beat him up.
The next day the guy did the same thing,

couldn't pay.
Then the next day, the

bartender!"
